For the 1968 model year, the Chevrolet El Camino entered its third generation with glowing success. It was larger and more muscular and featured a bevy of optional extras to accompany the lengthy roster of standard equipment. The SS package returned, too, giving customers an athletically stylish truck to haul, tow and enjoy some time out. This 1968 El Camino is an SS and has traveled less than 5 miles from a rotisserie restoration using NOS parts.
An AACA First Junior and Senior winner, the Butternut Yellow El Camino is exquisitely original, complete with a date coded and rebuilt carburetor, five tires date coded 1968, an original pair of new correct air shocks, an NOS front bumper, an original bench seat with headrests, a 1968 in-dash roller tachometer (currently inoperable), and paint code stickers as originally delivered. While it is dazzlingly original, it also has an assortment of new components like new chrome plating, stainless steel hydraulic lines, a new wiring harness, new front disc brakes and a remote power steering pump.
The 396/325 HP V-8 engine has been rebuilt and bolted to a new transmission, furthering the freshness while honoring the authenticity of what came off the assembly line. The exterior is highlighted with black trim, Chevrolet Rally Wheels, a driver’s side view mirror, an antenna and the SS badging. Inside, the black interior is fitted with the correct bench seat, column shift, sport steering wheel and radio.
